I am somewhat experienced with live CD distros, and am not having any great problems with downloading and burning live CDs. However, I am a linux beginner. I have been playing with DSL 3.0.1, with DSL things work and I am learning.

Decided to play with DSL-n. Downloaded 01EC3 (chksum okay), burned and booted. Now some of the icons "work" and some don't.

The following work as expected: Aterm, DSL Panel, Emelfm, xpaint, xpdf.

The following don't work: Beaver, Ted, xMMs, firefox, sylpheed.

Is this possible? What am I doing wrong? This is the only distro of half-a-dozen, that doesn't (automatically) allow me to connect to the internet via my cable modem. DSL (plain) connects fine. Why won't a simple program like Ted, load and run?

The only time I've seen this happen is if I had run another version of DSL on a machine, and saved the backup information on it.
Then, DSL-N loads up and loads a lot of conflicting stuff out of the backup file (I assume that's what happens). Suddenly shortcuts and menu items can't find what they are supposedly linked to.

Bring your machine up without DSL-N (in windows, or whatever), and check the root of the C drive for backup.tar.gz. If it's there, blow it away. Then you should have no troubles.

Thanks! Left over backup.tar on thumb drive, giving me icons that shouldn't be there, and icons that didn't work.

I didn't realize the baaackup file for DSL wouldn't work for DSL-n.

By the way do yoou happen to know wheere to adjust the typematic rate in DSL or DSL-n? Geneerally where one is allowed to adjust that, one can also adjusst the length of time a key takes before it decides to auto-repeat. As you can see from the words in this msg., my typing does not fit the default auto-repeat delay time (of most distros).

Yeah, that's a funny one... I did the exact same thing. That's how I knew what your problem was. I've since begun running DSL-N on this laptopn here, from scratch. I've now got it configured at least as well as my old DSL. In fact, there are some nice improvements.
I even figured out how to get my favorite dockapp (wmnet) up and running. I was missing that...

As far as your typmatic rate goes... No clue... The only thing I know how to change is the default for the desktop icons. I prefer to be able to move mine and double click. By default, DSL-N ships with them activating instantly...

So, if you want to know that, I can tell you...
