NMI would be helpful.
What module is 3.9 and/or 4.0.2 loading?

I finally got this running under RC3, as these cards are all 3890 based
The trick is to download some windows drivers for your card
eg (WATCH OUT THESE ARE FOR V0.2 CHIPSET NOT V0.1) or use your own XP drivers
then unzip them to somewhere (eg /mnt/hda5/driver)

Check the card is up in the PCMCIA TOOL (shows Intersil 3890)

Then this little lot into Aterminal with the card in place

sudo su
depmod -a (See another thread for this)
rmmod prism54 (Maybe a better prism 54 build would start the card, but not in DSL-n)
rmmod ndiswrapper (Seems silly, but it works)
ndiswrapper -i /mnt/hda5/driver/2802w.inf (if thats the files you got)
ndiswrapper -m
modprobe ndiswrapper (If you don't get a flash from the light on your card HERE you are wasting your time with the rest of this... you need that flash of light) - look at the drivers again (eg V1 or V2)

iwconfig wlan0 essid JAFFA2 key 1122-3344-55 (MY NETWORK IS JAFFA2 - my key is not 1122-334455!)
pump -i wlan0

AND NOW IT WORKS..... but I don't know why!
and can't get it to run properly in xinitrc (probably lots of other stuff going on that is interfering that I don't understand)

Hope this helps someone.

Thanks Mark!
my problem is actually another one: I used this cardbus with knoppix 3.9 and 4.02 without one problem; if dsl-n works with the kernel of the knoppix 4.02, why doesn't it read my card. I will do the check for you soon, Robert, and report results back.

Are you saying that full KNOPPIX 3.9 & 4.0.2 load prism54 module and it works. But DSL-N does not even load the prism54 module?
What happens when you manually load prism54?
What then does iwconfig show?

Perhaps as the other poster mentioned that he could not get prism54 to handle the card correctly and had to resort to ndiswrapper.

iwconfig gives: eth0 NOT READY! and the usual parameters.
prism54 is loaded, however (lsmod shows it).
When I configure eth0, the procedure fails with a message saying that the directory (?) doesn't exist.

Without me having this card it is very difficult to debug. So my questons continue...
So the iwconfig shows an eth0 and its mac address but just not configured? What is the output of iwconfig?
What is the exact error message, so that if a directory is missing, I may restore it.

so:

iwconfig not configured gives:

lo no wireless extensions.

eth0 NOT READY! ESSID:off/any
Mode:Managed Channel:0 Access Point: 00:00:00:00:00:00
Tx-Power=31 dBm Sensitivity=0/200
Retry min limit:0 RTS thr=0 B Fragment thr=0 B
Link Quality:0 Signal level:0 Noise level:0
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

eth1 no wireless extensions

Now, I am configuring wlan and netcard:

DSLpanel-->Wlcardconfig-->eth0 Netzwerkkarte_0
Geben Sie die ESSID: ***
(then five hits until I come in 'Geben Sie den Verschlüssungskey', e.g. the encryption key in hexadecimal): ***
Netcardconfig --> eth0 Netzwerkkarte_0
DHCP Broadcast zur Konfiguration benutzen? YES
Sende DHCP Broadcast von Netzwerkkarte eth0SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such file or directory
Operation failed
Fehlgeschlagen.
Eingabetaste zum Beenden (enter)

Now, iwconfig after the configuration process

eth0 NOT READY! ESSID:"***" (<-- Name of my network)
Mode:Managed Channel:0 Access Point: 00:00:00:00:00:00
Tx-Power=31 dBm Sensitivity=0/200
Retry min limit:0 RTS thr=0 B Fragment thr=0 B
Link Quality:0 Signal level:0 Noise level:0
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
