Hello everybody,

i'm currently toying around with Virtualisation Software like vmware (player), MS VirtualPC and Qemu and various Linux distributions.

dsl-2.3 runs fine with vmware and virtualpc, as does dsl-n in vmware.
My Problem: if i boot dsl-n (a5 or 0.1R1) in VirtualPC, it stops at the end of the line:

[code:1]Network device eth0 detected, DHCP broadcasting for IP._[/code:1]

The only way to get around is for me to disable all network devices of de virtual machine. It doesn't matter if any dhcp-hosts are available or not.
As the problem doesn't occur with vmware player, i guess VirtualPC is to blame.

Now my question to you is:
Is there a way to prevent dsl-n from using DHCP at boot-time?

Well, the "nodhcp" option allows me to boot, but:

As soon as i try to configure the nic by "netcardconfig", no matter if i choose DHCP or manual setup, it freezes the (vitual) system.

I find this kind of surprising, as dsl-2.3 has no problem at all using this (virual VIA) nic.

Any ideas what could cause the freeze ?

I am experiencing exactly the same problem with RC3 and VirtualPC
DSL 3.1 and VirtualPC does not have this problem. While the issue may indeed be with VirtualPC it appears to be one which DSL has the know-how to avoid. I very much welcome a way around this. As is, DSL-N RC3 is unusable. However, I commend those that have put such good effort into DSL. It's a very impressive product. It's always the little sh_t like this that screws up the show Smile

Though this question was asked of c6rIs, the version of VirtualPC with which I am experiencing the problem is 2004 (build 582)

An upgrade to SP1 (5.3.582.27) produces a different result. When I start a new DSL-N virtual machine, I get the message "The network adapter with address "00:00:00:00:00:00" of virtual machine "DSL-N" failed to initialize because the address is null. It stops loading at Init: Entering Runlevel 5

As further info, Installing with dsl nodhcp gets through to the desktop.
However, netcardconfig gets a segmentation fault
line 156: 1800 segmentation fault $CMD route add default gw 192.168.1.1
